    Installation

    The installation process for metallic epoxy flooring is similar to standard epoxy with the exception of the metallic pigments. This is a multi-step process that requires close attention to detail and the proper tools and equipment. Metallic epoxy flooring installation should only be completed by a trained professional to ensure a successful install. Even a minor DIY mistake can result in starting the process over from the start, costing you even more time and money. 

    The installation process begins with our team cleaning and inspecting your existing concrete for damage, such as cracks, chipping, or flaking. If any damage is discovered, we’ll need to repair it first, using injectable epoxy crack fillers and powdered concrete patches. The damage must be fixed to ensure the floor adheres appropriately and no damage transfers from the concrete to the epoxy. With all the repairs completed, we can move on to the floor prep step. Floor preparation is usually performed one of two ways, with a floor grinder fitted with a coarse diamond grinding wheel or a shot blaster. Typically, we use a floor grinder to prep your floor’s surface as it’s more efficient. Floor preparation is used to ensure the epoxy adheres to the concrete properly and removes any minor blemishes that didn’t need to be repaired, such as pits or small holes. Once the floor is prepped, we can apply the base epoxy layer while mixing the epoxy resin and metallic pigments for the following layers. We’ll use several layers of metallic epoxy and finish with a clear epoxy topcoat to reach the desired thickness for your floor. Before the topcoat is applied, any requested patterns will be applied using specialized tools by our team. After the designs are in place and the floor is sealed with the clear topcoat, your floor will need to cure before use. Metallic epoxy flooring is 90% cured after 24 hours. This means it’s safe to walk on, but no other use yet. After 72 hours, your metallic epoxy floor is 100% cured. Once the floor is cured, it’s clear for full service, including foot and vehicle traffic.
